Who I am
I'm a software engineer focused on mobile for more than a decade. I started as an iOS developer and evolved into roles that combine architecture, platform and team building. I went through Senior, Staff, Senior Staff and today work as a Principal Mobile Engineer at OLX Brasil.
My technical foundation is iOS (Swift, SwiftUI, Combine, UIKit, Concurrency), but I work cross-platform with Android and increasingly focus on developer experience: internal tooling, modularization, architecture patterns, and everything that reduces friction so that dozens of engineers can ship features fast without breaking the app.
Outside of work, I teach. I taught iOS at EBAC (from 2021 to 2025), I'm currently an instructor at Ada Tech running system-design tracks and mock interviews for experienced engineers, and I keep technical content here on buildcomcarlos.com and on Medium.
I also stay involved in the community: I co-organize CocoaHeads Rio since 2020 and contribute to tracks and talks at events like TDC, NSBrasil and local meetups.
Career path
Summary of the positions that shaped most of my current view of mobile engineering and technical leadership:
- OLX Brasil, Principal Mobile Engineer (oct/2024 to present). Technical leadership in iOS architecture, scalability, developer experience, mentoring and cross-platform initiatives. Direct work with Android, product and tech leadership.
- OLX Brasil, Senior Staff Software Engineer iOS II (jun/2022 to nov/2024). Acting as technical reference for iOS, mobile architecture, product decisions and evolving the developer experience prior to the promotion to Principal.
- Ada Tech, Mobile Instructor (aug/2025 to present). Training in mobile-focused system design, algorithms, mock interviews and technical growth for experienced engineers.
- EBAC, iOS with Swift Professor (jul/2021 to feb/2025). Official introductory iOS course at the British Academy of Creative Arts. Forming new developers for the Apple ecosystem.
- Bitboundaire, Tech Lead & Mobile Consultant (jan/2023 to may/2024). Leading modular SwiftUI architecture on AmiGo Travel, including monetization, subscriptions and product evolution.
- LuizaLabs, Staff iOS Software Engineer (jul/2021 to may/2022). Building the Super App (Magalu) platform and SDKs used by multiple product teams and mini-apps.
- Globo, Mobile Software Engineer / Senior iOS Developer (feb/2018 to jul/2021). Apps like Cartola FC, G1, ge and Gshow, plus internal SDKs, shared architecture and large-scale experiences.
Along this path I shipped features to millions of users, evolved legacy architectures into modular ones, built internal SDKs reused by multiple teams and mentored dozens of engineers who today work as Senior/Staff at other companies.
Areas of expertise
Where I tend to add the most value:
- Modern iOS architecture: Swift, SwiftUI, Combine, async/await, Concurrency, modularization with Tuist/SPM, MVVM/TCA, automated testing.
- Cross-platform mobile: iOS + Android strategy, sharing domain logic via GraphQL/REST, deciding when to use Kotlin Multiplatform vs native vs hybrid.
- Developer experience: internal tooling, PR patterns, code generation, build-time reduction, CI/CD, testing patterns that scale to large teams.
- Mobile system design: app architecture at scale, offline-first, sync, client-side observability, performance, memory-leak debugging (including open cases like the Notelet leak and using MemoryDetective via Claude Code).
- Technical leadership: building teams, mentoring, defining technical roadmaps, aligning product and engineering, promotion processes.
- Open technical content: translating complex problems into practical content via articles, talks and courses.
Talks and teaching
I've presented at events such as:
- NSBrasil 2019, App architecture at Globo.com (Brazil's largest iOS event). Watch.
- The Developers Conference (TDC), sessions on mobile and architecture tracks. Watch session.
- CocoaHeads Rio, regular Apple-community meetups in Rio with technical talks and practical exchange between developers. Watch meetup.
- EBAC courses, iOS Development with Swift, the official course at the British Academy of Creative Arts. Watch course.
The full archive of talks and classes in video is at /talks.
Education and certifications
- FIAP: post-graduate degree in Tech Management (since may/2025).
- PUC Minas: post-graduate degree in Distributed Software Architecture.
- UERJ (Rio de Janeiro State University): B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, with software and mobile projects.
- Udacity: iOS Developer Nanodegree (feb/2019).
- Scrum.org: Professional Scrum Master I (aug/2015).
Why this site exists
This site is my personal editorial outlet. It is not a corporate blog, has no sponsorship, and does not host third-party content. Every article here is text I wrote about something I personally investigated, implemented, taught or debugged.
The editorial focus is clear: mobile engineering at scale, with a practical and direct tone. When I publish an article, it usually covers one of these angles:
- A real case of a bug, performance issue or architecture decision I faced and want to document with concrete numbers.
- A new technique I tried (e.g., Claude Code for debugging leaks, NativePHP for cross-platform, MCP servers for data analysis).
- An architectural tradeoff I went through and that few teams document publicly.
- An internal tool or pipeline I built that is worth sharing as a playbook.
I don't write "intro to Swift" content because the internet already has plenty of that. I write what I wished I had found written when I faced the problem for the first time.
How to hire or collaborate with me
I'm open to conversations about:
- Talks and workshops at conferences, meetups and companies, on mobile architecture, technical leadership or developer experience.
- Ad-hoc consulting on iOS architecture, modularization, or technical assessment of mobile products.
- 1:1 mentoring with Senior+ engineers looking for their next career step (Staff/Principal).
- Editorial collaborations: co-authored technical articles, podcasts and interviews related to mobile engineering.
The most direct way: email [email protected] or the channels listed on my Linktree.
